Job Description And Responsibilities Transport scrap materials throughout the yard, feed conveyors and other equipment, sort, stack, bundle, and stamp materials, and perform additional activities to assist with process and machine operations.
- Responsible for handling, moving, and disposing of metal/scrap material throughout the scrapyard
- Organize and sort various metal materials throughout the scrapyard
- Keeps yard area clean, tidy, and organized
- Various lifting and manual labor tasks are involved
- Adhere to all appropriate Standard Operating Procedures
- Grease and clean equipment as needed and assist maintenance to keep production equipment operational and functional
- Wear PPE gear at all times, including hard hat, safety glasses, and steel-toe boots while working
- Performs other duties as they might be assigned
Requirements
- Completion of High School or GED equivalent
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work, as the worksite is not accessible by city transit
- No experience necessary, but previous work experience in a manufacturing, production, or similar scrapyard environment will be considered an asset
- Able to meet the physical demands of the position, including standing, walking, sitting, climbing, crawling, kneeling, bending, moderate to heavy lifting and pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds throughout the day
- Willing and able to work in variable weather conditions, including hot, dry summer conditions and cold, harsh winter conditions
- Willing and able to work in an environment subject to fluctuations in dust, odours, fumes, and noise
- Strong communication skills – communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and over mobile radio devices
- Strong work ethic – uses time efficiently, works safely, and ensures everyone around him/her is working safely
- Strong attention to detail with close visual attention for sustained/long periods
