We took the unprecedented step for an NGO of writing the Marine Arctic Peace Sanctuary (MAPS) Treaty to update international law. Given the extreme urgency to realize MAPS for the sake of all life, we seek a highly motivated and skilled General Counsel to support our work to advance MAPS internationally.

Experience & qualifications

Ambitous, courageous, a natural leader and a collaborator.

You have a track record of successful negotiations, effective networking, and getting things done with creativity to find a way through every obstacle.

You have excellent communications, organization, and interpersonal skills.

You are also responsive to immediately implement direction from the senior executive team, have a deep commitment to integrity, and have a clear mind and determined heart.

5+ years’ of professional experience in a law firm or in-house legal team
-
Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.), Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent law degree
-
Membership in good standing with your local State Bar Associa&on.

Multiple State Bar memberships is an asset but not required
-
Multi-border expertise is an asset but not required
-
A current practicing certificate and current errors and omissions insurance coverage
-
Be willing and able to provide your services as an independent contractor through your own company

Previous experience as a freelance lawyer working on project-based assignments is a plus
-
High speed internet access and home office set up for seamless remote work capabilities
Job Type: Freelance
Pay: $55,000.00-$68,000.00 per year
Flexible language requirement:
- English not required
- French not required
Language:
- Impeccable English mandatory, other langauages an asset. (required)
Willingness to travel:
- 25% (preferred)
