Development Engineering Technician

The Town of Golden invites applications from qualified and experienced persons for the full-time permanent position of Development Engineering Technician.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This position reports directly to the Director of Planning and Development and works closely with the Director of Public Works as well as the Town and developers’ engineering consultants. The Development Engineering Technician is responsible for assisting, advising and leading the technical/engineering aspects of development applications, inspecting developer-led Town capital works, and managing servicing agreements and other developer agreements (ex. latecomer agreements). This position will review engineering and other professional reports to ensure conformance with applicable bylaws and policies and provide minor vacation coverage for the Town’s building official.

Some interesting projects in the short term include a large fee-simple residential subdivision, assisting with completing a new development cost charge bylaw, and implementing other development infrastructure financing tools.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years of post-secondary training in civil engineering technology or a related field;

  • Eligibility for membership with a relevant professional organization such as the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians Association of BC (ASTTBC), or EGBC within two years;

  • BOABC Building Level 1 qualification;

  • Proficient knowledge of principles of planning, building, and engineering in a municipal government context;

  • General knowledge of land use legislation affecting local government, including the Local Government Act, Land Title Act, Strata Property Act and the Community Charter;

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Local Government Experience

  • Construction inspection experience and related courses.

  • Experience and understanding of Legal Subdivision process.
