About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Chief Power Engineer & Assistant Manager on a 24-hour rotating shift basis, the 3rd Class Power Engineer troubleshoots, maintains, repairs, and monitors all steam plant equipment and supports facility general maintenance as regulations permit. This position is responsible for maintenance and repair work on equipment as directed by his/her supervisor which can include the boiler plant, chiller plant, water treatment plant and facility as regulations permit. The operator oversees all energy production during working hours and is responsible for maintaining constant production from the plant to the entire facility, following the Nova Scotia Boiler & Pressure Equipment Regulations. In special circumstances where approved, this position may be required to temporarily perform duties of a position with a higher-class or lower-class Power Engineer license to ensure coverage.
The 3rd Class Power Engineer is responsible for frequent rounds and documentation of all system statuses. These include, but are not limited to: boiler function, steam pressures at PRV stations, steam to hot water generator rounds, various pressures and temperatures on pumps, tanks, fuel delivery systems, cooling towers, chillers, air handling units, reverse osmosis units, UPS systems, fire alarm systems, water treatment management and BAS (building automation system).
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- 2 Year Power Engineering Technology program
- Third Class Power Engineer Certificate of Qualification
- Experience in high-pressure boiler plant environment and familiarity with the systems and equipment associated with a heating plant operation.
- Experience with building chiller systems and all associated equipment
- Experience with plant mechanical system maintenance
- Familiarity with computerized boiler control systems and building energy management systems
- Strong safety track record and mindset is a must
- Knowledge of labor and safety codes
- Infection Control Awareness
- Previous building maintenance experience
- Asbestos Awareness
- Water Treatment Familiarization
- Fire Extinguisher Training
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours
- Permanent, Full-Time position; 75 hours bi-weekly
Compensation and Benefits
$27.93 - $28.39 Hourly
This position is eligible for a Shift Premium of $2.35 per hour for all hours worked on Night & Weekend Shifts
Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
This position is currently eligible for a Market Adjustment of approximately $76.92 biweekly. Eligibility for a Market Adjustment is reviewed periodically.
