The Opportunity
Fleet Operations within the Ministry of Highways is currently seeking a highly motivated Fleet Shop Manager for its Yorkton Repair Depot.
Under the general direction of the Fleet Operations Director, you will work as the team leader in Yorkton delivering repair, fabrication, procurement, and assembly work on the provincial fleet of equipment and vehicles.
In this position, you will:
- Oversee a team of journeypersons and apprentice staff.
- Assign and monitor tasks in a manner that provides a safe work environment for all employees while maintaining a required level of service to internal clients.
- Co-ordinate daily shop activities.
- Collaborate with external stakeholders.
- Provide staff supervision and development needs.
Overnight travel is required periodically.
Ideal Candidate
To be considered for the position, our ideal candidate may have previous types of work experience:
- Experience in managing or providing supervision in a Heavy Equipment and Truck Repair Shop.
- Hold a ticket as a Journeyperson Technician in either the Heavy Equipment, Truck and Transport or Agricultural Machinery Technician Trades which are recognized by the province of Saskatchewan.
- Valid Saskatchewan driver's license, preferably class 3A or higher.
It is imperative in this position to manage the team in accordance with the Ministry’s corporate values, while ensuring that the corporate culture is promoted and maintained through exemplary leadership, staff recognition and accountability processes.
In addition to the required supervisory, work delegation, problem solving, and customer service skills, the successful candidate must have the required leadership and management competencies.
Some of the key position requirements are:
- organize and prioritize work activities while taking into consideration safety and needs of employees, clients and stakeholders.
- monitor monthly expenditures, assist in annual budget development, prepare various reports, and develop and implement administrative policies.
- recruit and select staff.
- manage activities associated with the inventory to maximize the productivity and ensure the provision of supplies for clients while keeping in mind the cost of inventory.
- input, edit, update, retrieve, maintain, format and transmit data with accuracy creating and generating queries, reports and other documents using word processing, databases, spreadsheets, communications and other software packages; and
- perform various economic analyses such as cost/benefit analyses relating to optimum repair/replacement strategies and provide written reports to document the results.
You must have a solid understanding of the Ministry’s core business and the ability to forecast staffing requirements in order to maximize the efficiency of the depot and meet required level of service.
