Job Description
We are seeking a Casual Page at the Kamloops, North Kamloops, and Aberdeen Tiny Libraries who will create a welcoming environment and a superb library experience for all.
Reporting to the Adult Services Coordinator, this position ensures that materials are on the shelves for customers and staff to find. The Page helps direct customers to the things they want, and provides good customer service. Other duties include tidying, preparation of displays and programs, checking in/out library materials, and packing/unpacking shipments. Other responsibilities include cleaning and minor preparation of routine displays of library material, clearing abandoned material from public areas, answering directional questions and referring information questions to appropriate staff, photocopying materials, and checking in/out library materials. The Page also interacts with the public and may occasionally deal with challenging situations. The schedule for this position is subject to change. There is also a physical component to this position
This position requires a flexible schedule, as shifts will vary, including daytime, evening, and weekend work. Work may be scheduled in advance as well as on short notice. There are no guaranteed hours.
Your availability is required within the Casual Availability Form. Changes to availability must align with Article 30 and Appendix 7 of the BCGEU Collective Agreement.
Job Requirements
- Grade 10 or General Education Development Diploma (GED);
- Customer service experience and a passion for helping others;
- A belief in the importance of literacy;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Excellent organizational skills;
- Strong attention to detail;
- Strong problem solving skills;
- Demonstrated ability to manage conflict and diffuse difficult patron situations;
- Basic computer skills; and
- Ability to lift 20-25 lbs.
The position is subject to the provisions of the Collective Agreement with the BC General Employees' Union, Local 705.
The Page position is a Pay Grid Level 3 which is $19.70 - $21.75/hour. Non-benefitted staff receive 18.2%-21.2% in lieu of annual vacation, statutory holidays, sick leave, and benefits as per Article 25.8.
The TNRD requires that all successful applicants undergo a Criminal Record Check.
