Family Practice ROS (300-1066)

Island Health is seeking a dedicated Physician to join our team at the Port McNeill Primary Care Centre and Port McNeill Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic, team-based environment, providing primary care to a diverse patient population. As a physician, you will collaborate with healthcare professionals, including nurses, social workers, and specialists, while sharing responsibilities for emergency call and inpatient care at Port McNeill Hospital.

The clinic is located in a vibrant rural community with abundant outdoor recreation, including hiking, biking, fishing, kayaking, and skiing. The clinic is also conveniently close to essential health services like Public Health, Home Care, and MHSU, all within 1.3 km. You will have autonomy within an Island Health Primary Care Center and be supported by a strong collaborative network.

The role provides an opportunity to work with diverse populations, including those requiring transgender care, Indigenous relations, and Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID). An interest in providing care to rural and underserved communities is essential.

The position offers a supportive, collaborative environment with strong backup coverage and increasing interest from locums for both clinic and on-call shifts. Hours of Work:

  • Monday to Friday, 10am -5pm

Remuneration:

  • Flexible remuneration models. LFP is preferable. Full billing support and assistance with submission/rejection processes.

Benefits:

May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) including:

  • Recruitment Incentive: $20,000 (full-time)
  • Relocation Costs Reimbursement: up to $15,000
  • Fee Premium: 22.82%
  • Annual Flat Fee: $35,496.48
  • Rural CME: starting at $1,320/annum up to 2 years, increasing to $3,520/annum in year 3 & 4 in community, and $5,720/annum after 4 years.

Community Information:

Port McNeill, with a population of 2,600, located on the north east coast of Vancouver Island, enjoys a mild climate and year round recreational activities such as sport fishing, windsurfing, scuba diving, boating, hiking and wildlife viewing. In addition to the primary industry of forestry, Port McNeill is the center of aquaculture activity on northern Vancouver Island. Tourism is a growing industry with eco-tourism flourishing.

Port McNeill is accessible by highway and commercial bus service. The local airport is private but a commercial airport, with regular scheduled daily flights is located 36 km north in Port Hardy. Port McNeill boasts an active small business sector and a lively arts community.
