Job Summary

The Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) as a member of the Infection Control Team is responsible and accountable for surveillance, education and consultation in accordance with current standards of practice. He/she/them supports the Infection Control process using the principles embedded in the core competencies. He/she/them is a clinical specialist functioning as a consultant, educator, role model, researcher and agent of change. He/she/them supports and participates in continuous improvement of the existing Infection Control Program initiatives as indicated by current standards. He/she is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of assigned projects.

Qualifications

  • Degree in relevant health science or related discipline and current registration with the relevant college/university/association or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Completion of an Infection Prevention and Control Canada endorsed IPAC course
  • Minimum of 3-5 years combined recent hospital experience in Infection Prevention and Control preferred or other related field, i.e. clinical microbiology.
  • Active member of Infection Prevention and Control Canada (IPAC Canada) and preferred to be a current member of IPAC-GTA.
  • Current certification with the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CIC) is preferred; or candidates actively pursuing certification, with a commitment to obtain certification within the first three years of employment. Continues with CIC certification during employment
  • Demonstrated ability in interpersonal, communication, diplomacy, coaching, facilitation and team building skills
  • Skills in teaching and program design
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of hospital information systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software application MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development
  • Demonstrated ability to promote and manage change
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated problem assessment skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and teamwork
  • Demonstrated individual leadership skills
