Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Buyer to join our team at Fleet Canada Inc. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in procurement, vendor management, and ensuring that all materials meet the company’s specifications for quality, price, and delivery schedules.

As a Buyer, you will be responsible for handling purchase orders, negotiating contracts, and working closely with vendors to maintain a smooth supply chain. This role requires a proactive individual who can operate independently while managing multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Place and amend purchase orders based on company needs and ERP requirements.
  • Determine necessary quantities and delivery dates for materials.
  • Prepare and forward RFQs (Request for Quotations) to vendors for materials, products, or processing.
  • Identify and approve suitable vendors in collaboration with Fleet/customer specifications.
  • Occasionally meet with sales representatives and conduct vendor follow-ups or site visits.
  • Negotiate prices, analyze purchases, and recommend improvements to reduce costs and ensure material availability.
  • Resolve vendor and carrier claims efficiently.
  • Monitor market trends and report on commodity developments to manage lead times.
  • Liaise with vendors and internal departments to expedite deliveries and meet production deadlines.
  • Ensure vendors meet schedule demands to avoid delays in production.
  • Prepare reports, manage department filing systems, and maintain accurate records.
  • Issue/amend Goods Received reports and manage Returned Material Orders.
  • Expedite and reschedule purchase orders per ERP reports.
  • Arrange inbound shipments, including handling freight estimates when necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a related procurement or supply chain role.
  • Membership or credits with PMAC or CAPIC is considered an asset.
  • Strong negotiation, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Proficient in managing ERP systems and familiar with procurement best practices.
