About the Faculty of Continuing Education & Extension

Mount Royal University’s Faculty of Continuing Education has provided high quality education to the Calgary community and beyond for more than 75 years. Serving more than 30,000 students per year, we offer a suite of Ministry of Advanced Education-approved programs (occupational programs in massage, personal fitness trainer and funeral education; academic upgrading; and our Transitional Vocational Programming), over 60 programs and 350+ courses to support professional and personal development in a wide range of topics, and our Conservatory (which offers a broad range of music and speech arts programming). Our courses cover a wide range of topics, including but not limited to business, technology and health. These courses are offered in a variety of formats on campus, online, in the workplace, and in the community.

About the Role

The department is seeking professionals interested in contributing their expertise to teach in the following program: Children’s Mental Health Extension Certificate program

Fall 2025 semester course:

  • Systems Collaboration | Dates: Nov. 17 - Dec. 12, 2025

Future online courses may include:

  • Framework for Healthy Development

  • The Child’s Social and Environmental Conditions

  • Child and Youth Resiliency

  • Mental Health I: Disorders Diagnosed in the Early Years

  • Mental Health II: Psychosis, Mood, Anxiety and Increased Risk

  • Mental Health III: Physiological Needs and Theories for Intervention

  • Systems in Criminal Justice and Child Protective Services

  • Systems in Mental Health and Education

  • Systems Collaboration

Responsibilities

The course is offered online. The instructor will:

  • Prepare and deliver lessons plans and learning activities using the approved curriculum
  • Lead Google Meet session(s) with students as outlined in the course format
  • Provide appropriate assessment, evaluation and feedback to students
  • Access the course daily (must have reliable internet service throughout the entire period of the course)
  • Reply to student inquiries within 24-48 hours
  • Adhere to MRU and Faculty of Continuing Education policies and deadlines
  • Maintain regular contact with the administration team
  • Participate in virtual instructor meetings with the administration team as required

Qualifications

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience working in a related field
  • Post-secondary graduate degree in psychology, counselling, social work, or a related field
  • Working knowledge of copyright and APA citation (7th ed)
  • Professional communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace
  • Instructional experience in an adult education environment is an asset
  • Proficiency with the D2L learning management system is an asset
