What You will Need to Succeed

Position Summary We are looking for a hands-on, mechanically minded Farm Operations Lead to support our innovative farming operations. This role combines physical, outdoor work with leadership and problem-solving, making it ideal for someone with transferable skills from construction, trades, or other practical work environments.

Reporting to the Farm Manager, the Farm Operations Lead will be responsible for executing and improving daily farm operations. We are seeking someone who loves working with their hands, can take initiative, work independently after training, and contribute fresh ideas to help us improve and grow.

The Farm Operations Lead will provide essential support to the Farm Manager in the day-to-day operations of Cascadia’s seaweed farming, harvesting, and processing activities. This position will work mostly on land (about 65% in the yard and at upland facilities) with about 35% of the time on the water during harvest and seeding.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair equipment, ensuring all tools, machinery, and materials are in good working order.
  • Help build and maintain farm structures and equipment.
  • Transport equipment and materials safely using company vehicles.
  • Assist in daily operations of seaweed farming, including planting, monitoring, and harvesting seaweed.
  • Follow all health and safety protocols and contribute to a safe working environment.
  • Work closely with the Farm Manager and other team members to identify issues, solve problems, and improve processes.
  • Prepare equipment and materials for tasks as needed.
  • Perform other farm maintenance and general operational support tasks as assigned.
  • Carry out repetitive but important tasks such as splicing rope, tying knots, or other equipment prep.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, requested, or deemed necessary by the organization.

Schedule

  • Work hours will be flexible and based on operational needs with a standard work week of 40 hours per week. This includes working some evenings and/or weekends.
  • The nature of the position requires travel and long days when in the field and will periodically require you to work in excess of a standard 40-hour work week.

Requirements

  • Valid class 5 driver’s license (required).
  • Previous experience with hands on labour such as construction, farm work, equipment repair, or other mechanical/trades roles.
  • Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP) certification or willingness to obtain (optional-not required).
  • Familiarity with safety standards such as WHMIS and first-aid risk assessments (preferred).
  • Physical ability to lift up to fifty pounds and work outdoors in varied conditions.
  • Strong work ethic, curiosity, and I love for working outside and solving practical problems.
  • Experience with machinery and equipment such as forklifts, hiab cranes, etc. is an asset.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office, google docs is an asset.
  • Ability to work in a wide range of environments, from indoor facilities to outdoor marine settings.
  • Excellent time management skills, the ability to multitask and prioritize work
  • Attention to detail and good problem-solving skills
