About Us
Innovation & Strategic Partnerships unites Western’s Technology Transfer Office, Strategic Partnerships, and Western Research Parks, driving the impact of Western’s research by fostering connections between research, industry, and communities.
As a Business Development Project Assistant, you will support both Western’s Technology Transfer Office and Strategic Partnerships team through on-site assistance across a diverse portfolio of projects.
Responsibilities
- Explore commercialization opportunities for University technologies and identify potential industry partners and receptors.
- Assist with technology project support and evaluation, market assessment and research, developmental risk analysis, and competitive environment studies.
- Identify potential industry partners, companies, and markets for ongoing and new projects.
- Conduct technology literature research and competitive landscape analyses.
- Contribute to project and technology marketing efforts, including developing marketing materials and supporting documents.
- Support the Business Development team in day-to-day activities.
- Assist in promoting an innovation-focused culture across campus.
- Work with the Strategic Partnerships team to track industry interactions and support collaborative R&D opportunities.
Qualifications
- Preference given to students enrolled in Science programs (Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or related Life Sciences).
- Students currently in Business programs with some or prior Sciences experience OR students in dual Sciences and Business programs are encouraged to apply.
- Undergraduate students are invited to apply. Must be a student returning to studies in the fall.
Other requirements
- Technical knowledge in science-related fields with some business understanding
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Self-motivated and self-disciplined with a "can-do" attitude
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Familiar with database searching
- Proficient in MS Word and PowerPoint, with advanced expertise in Excel
- Preferred understanding of data management principles (which could include experience with ETL processes, SQL. Python R etc.)
- Experience or demonstrated interest in PowerBI and basic front-end technologies (such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript) will be considered an asset.
