LOGISTICS COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION
MAIN PURPOSE:
Reporting to the Project Manager, the Logistics Coordinator is responsible for managing and planning the movement of materials, equipment, and personnel to efficiently support our operations team, on-going projects, and stakeholders in consideration with all safety regulations and protocol. The Logistics Coordinator will work with the project team (Project Coordinators, Manager, and/or General Manager) to support the delivery and execution of project plans and ensure project goals are met.
This position offers developmental opportunities in understanding the railway methods of bidding, purchasing, negotiating, contracting, railway construction, cash flow, expediting, receiving and transporting in the railway industry.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate the scheduling and transportation of railway construction materials, equipment, and tools to various job sites.
- Liaise with suppliers, freight carriers, and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery and compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Monitor and manage CVOR and company fleet as necessary.
- Track shipments and inventory levels, maintaining accurate records to avoid delays and shortages.
- Collaborate with project managers and site supervisors to forecast material needs and adjust logistics plans accordingly.
- Manage permits, documentation, and compliance related to transport of oversized or hazardous loads.
- Organize and schedule the deployment of specialized railway machinery and levels.
- Monitor and report of logistics performance metrics to improve operational efficiency.
- Submit invoices and collect payments from the customer as necessary.
- Update and maintain customer/contact database for all contacts associated with any project, existing customers, sub-contractors, prime contractors or any other parties that may influence or impact A& B Rail Services success.
- Support the resolution of any transport or delivery issues promptly to minimize project disruptions.
- May perform other related duties, as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.
- Strong computer skills are required with proven proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Familiarity with logistics software, inventory management systems, and provincial/federal transport regulations.
- Ability to anticipate stakeholder needs, investigate the underlying causes and identify short and long-term solutions.
- Proven experience in logistics coordination, preferably within construction, railway, or heavy industries.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks and quickly adjust in a rapidly changing environment.
- Effective and proven organizational skills to meet multiple deadlines and handle multiple tasks in a high pressure and demanding work environment.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Demonstrate the ability to think critically, act logically to evaluate situations, solve problems, and make decisions.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Degree and/or Diploma in supply chain management or a related field.
- Valid driver’s license: forklift or heavy machinery operation certification is an asset.
- May need to work weekends and weeknights, depending on project.
