About the role
As a Junior Corporate Paralegal based in our Toronto office**,** you will play a crucial role in optimizing the efficiency of the Legal and Compliance Department. This role combines hands-on support for compliance management, document preparation and organization, data entry, and team coordination to ensure the Legal and Compliance Department operates efficiently and effectively. The ideal candidate is highly organized with impeccable attention to detail, tech-savvy, and eager to grow within a collaborative legal team. This position is hybrid, with employees expected to be in office 3 days per week.
The essential responsibilities and duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Manage the technology tools used by the legal and compliance team, including internal tracking systems, to streamline workflows and enhance departmental efficiency.
- Support the maintenance and updating of templates, policies, procedures, and other documents managed by the legal and compliance team, to ensure proper organization and accessibility across the organization.
- Assist with global entity management, including maintaining corporate records, ensuring compliance with local filing requirements, coordinating annual reports and renewals, managing subsidiary governance processes, and facilitating the execution of resolutions and other entity-related documentation in all jurisdictions where the company operates.
- Support the preparation of reports and presentations created by the legal and compliance team for internal and external stakeholders.
- Liaise with registered agents and update the entity management system to reflect corporate changes.
- Coordinate the execution and filing of legal and compliance documents.
- Assist in the development and delivery of training programs on legal and compliance topics.
- Support in the response to due diligence, audit, and assessment requests.
- Help monitor and track laws and regulations relevant to the company's operations, globally.
- Assist with third-party and vendor management activities, including tracking contract obligations, coordinating due diligence efforts, and supporting ongoing risk assessments and compliance monitoring.
- Assist with compiling and organizing periodic document productions the company needs to make as part of inquiries, investigations, litigation and other proceedings.
- Provide general administrative and operations support to the legal and compliance team.
Qualifications
- 1+ year of experience as a corporate paralegal or in a legal support role.
- Bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies, Paralegal Studies, or related field.
- Paralegal certificate preferred but not required.
- Proven ability to support corporate governance, entity management, and legal documentation processes.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks.
- Ability to act with integrity and maintain confidentiality.
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with contract management tools or compliance software.
- Background in legal and compliance operations, or corporate governance.
