At ATB, we exist to make it possible for our clients, team members and communities. Our purpose is more than aspirational. It's a real commitment we live every day through our values (what we call the ATB ID).
Life at ATB is about more than work. In fact, we’re consistently recognized as one of Canada's top employers thanks to our high-care, high-performance culture, upheld by the three commitments we make to our team members:
Impact in action: No matter where you are in the organization, you're empowered to make an impact in the lives of our clients and communities.
Thrive together: We want you—the unique, authentic you—to feel safe and celebrated at work. We're on a continuous journey to build the most flexible and inclusive programs.
Ready for tomorrow: We want to enable your success through interesting and challenging work, performance enablement, and learning and development.
About the role
ATB is seeking a Director, Banking Book Financial Risk Management Oversight to lead the strategic development and rigorous oversight of our banking book financial risk management (FRM) frameworks. This pivotal leadership role will transform our risk oversight from a compliance-focused approach to one that provides valuable analytical insights, fortifying ATB's financial resilience and supporting sustainable growth.
Accountabilities
What You'll Do:
- Strategize & Enhance: Lead the design and continuous enhancement of advanced financial risk management frameworks for the banking book, including methodologies for IRRBB, CSRBB, EaR, and VaR. You'll drive the development of oversight capabilities for Balance Sheet Management components and build a centralized FRM-wide Reporting function with a focus on automation.
- Oversee & Control: Provide critical challenge and rigorous oversight of banking book financial risk exposures (market, liquidity, and balance sheet risks), ensuring robust measurement and monitoring processes and strict adherence to limits and policies. This includes daily reporting, leading limit reviews, calibrating stress testing limits, and in-depth analysis of daily reporting for IRRBB, CSRBB, and Liquidity Risk.
- Model & Validate: Provide expert review and challenge of IRRBB and Liquidity risk models, leading 2nd Line of Defense (2LoD) risk model challenge and review processes, assessing aspects like deposit elasticity, beta and their respect impacts on core deposit measures, NII and EVE sensitivity etc.
- Comply & Advise: Maintain and develop policies and procedures related to banking book financial risk, support regulatory reporting, and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Lead & Influence: Foster strong collaborations with key stakeholders across ATB, influencing strategic initiatives and advocating for necessary investments to enable responsible growth. You'll play a critical role in shaping ATB Financial’s risk culture within the banking book domain, transforming 2LoD into a value-add analytical insight capability.
- Build & Enhance: Drive the requirements for the data process with a commensurate strategic data architecture that enables the Banking Book analytical capabilities, working collaboratively with key stakeholders in CXT (Technology) into the broader enterprise strategic vision and FRM’s Strategic Delivery team. Oversight responsibilities will include data governance, aggregation and data quality standards, enabling implementation of robust analytical tools, risk management metrics, reporting streams and regulatory compliance requirements.
Skills, experience & requirements
What You'll Bring:
- Education: Master's degree, or potentially a Ph.D., in finance, mathematics, or statistics.
- Experience: 8-12 years of progressive experience in banking book risk management and leadership roles.
- Expertise: Expert-level knowledge in managing and overseeing Interest Rate Risk in the Banking Book (IRRBB), Credit Spread Risk in the Banking Book (CSRBB), liquidity risk, and balance sheet management risks. This includes advanced understanding of modeling mortgage options, non-linear risk, duration, and key rate durations.
- Proven Track Record: Direct experience in developing, implementing, and overseeing robust banking book risk frameworks, including limit setting, policy development, and regulatory compliance. Proven experience reviewing and challenging complex financial models and leading model backtesting. Experience in designing and calibrating stress scenarios with respect to balance sheet management and liquidity risk profiles.
- Designations (Asset): CFA or FRM.
- Skills: Strong ability to lead, mentor, and build high-performing teams, exceptional EQ, and strong communication skills.
Join ATB and play a critical role in shaping our financial resilience and sustainable growth!
