Are you looking for an exciting new challenge to work as a Drilling Operations Geoscientist with Suncor? In this role, you will support the planning and execution phases of the Drilling Geological programs to support Suncor’s on-going operational activities.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in Geology or Geophysics with 4-6 years work experience OR Graduate level degree with 3-5 years work experience
  • Solid foundational knowledge of land drilling rigs and drilling operations
  • Professional membership with APEGA (P. Geo) or eligibility for registration
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, emphasizing collaboration and integration

Minimum Requirements:

  • A single point of contact to drive alignment in executing geological operations across multiple business units
  • Driving synergy and continuous improvement by providing all geological field staff/contractors with standard procedures and protocols across multiple business units.
  • Provides a single point of contact to liaise between geological asset teams and Drilling Engineers/Superintendents during planning and execution.
  • Review of the expectations and lessons learned from previous years to improve safety and performance.
  • Anticipate geological waivers that may be required.
  • Define logging parameters, configurations and understand logging resources required.
  • Define Core handling, transportation, and core analysis requests. Provide information to core lab vendors.
  • Planning and Execution of Geological Pre-Spud Meetings between Wellsite Geological Vendor, Core Evaluation Lab and Logging Contractor.
  • Manage geological field activities through daily interaction and morning call updates

Location and other key details:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • This is an in office role, hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
