PRIMARY & PREP****COVERAGE TEACHER

Part-time (0.8 FTE) position

Bowen Island Community School

Effective September 2, 2025 until June 30, 2026

The annual salary for a full-time teaching position ranges from $59,711 to $109,520, with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement. The salary will be prorated based on FTE.

Required Qualifications and Experience

A teaching position consisting of .5 FTE primary teaching and .3 FTE fine arts prep coverage is available. The successful candidate for this position must be able to demonstrate evidence of the following:

  • Current knowledge and recent successful experience and training at the kindergarten and primary levels.

  • Current knowledge of play-based and place-based learning.

  • A clear understanding of the components of professional practice including planning and preparation, classroom environment, instruction, and professional responsibilities.

  • A clear understanding of the characteristics of students in the early primary grades and ability to develop a positive learning environment inclusive of individual intellectual, physical and emotional needs of this age group.

  • A clear understanding and demonstrated ability to incorporate the tenants of inquiry in teaching and learning.

  • Skills and a commitment to creating an inclusive classroom learning environment that meets the needs of all learners.

  • Experience and a clear understanding of social and emotional learning and self-regulation.

  • A clear understanding of the range of development for students in the elementary years in reading, writing, numeracy, communication skills, and in problem solving.

  • Interest in cultures of coastal First Nations of BC and, more generally, Traditional Ecological Knowledge including learning from the environment and pursuing the goals described in West Vancouver Schools' .

  • Proven ability and commitment to working cooperatively and effectively with other educators in a highly collaborative team setting.

  • Excellent communication skills and commitment to informing and engaging parents/guardians.
