Status: Temporary Full-Time

Closing Date: July 22, 2025 Job Summary The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, a world-leading cancer research institution, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position. We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled experimental physicist to join our cutting-edge research program. This position offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of cancer research examining X-ray-induced photodynamic therapy.

The successful candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of physicists, chemists, and oncologists to investigate the fundamental physics and biological effects of nanoclusters activated by X-rays. This project will involve a combination of experimental work and data analysis, with a particular focus on Monte Carlo simulations.

Duties

  • Design and conduct experiments to characterize nanocluster behavior under X-ray irradiation.
  • Develop and validate Monte Carlo models for photon transport and dose distribution in nanomaterial systems.
  • Collaborate with chemists and biologists to optimize nanocluster designs for maximum therapeutic efficacy.
  • Analyze experimental and simulation data to extract meaningful physical insights.
  • Mentor graduate students and collaborate with other researchers within the program.
  • Prepare high-quality manuscripts for publication in leading scientific journals.
  • Additional responsibilities include presenting research findings at conferences.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Experimental Physics, Medical Physics, or a related field, obtained within the previous 5 years.
  • Experience with Monte Carlo simulation (e.g., Geant4, FLUKA, MCNP) is an asset.
  • Strong experimental physics background, ideally with experience in radiation or nanoparticle research.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and scientific programming (e.g., Python, MATLAB, or C++).
  • Excellent scientific writing and communication skills.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience with photodynamic therapy, nanotechnology, or radiation biology is an asset.
  • Familiarity with imaging techniques (e.g., microscopy, spectroscopy) is beneficial.
