Six (6) month term

Reporting to the Manager, Vernon Water Reclamation Centre, this position provides manual and physical labour, janitorial, ground, and general housekeeping duties pertaining to the water reclamation centre.

Duties Include:

  • Provides operating, monitoring, and maintenance support for the Water Reclamation Services Division.

  • Performs janitorial tasks, ground maintenance duties and general housekeeping assignments.

  • Operates a bio-solids disposal vehicle.

  • Completes material purchases as per policy (limits, procedure).

  • Performs general labouring duties

  • Works in compliance with the City of Vernon safety policies and WCB regulations.

  • Performs related work as required.

  • All persons employed by the City of Vernon will be required to assist the City in providing emergency services. Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.

  • 3 months experience in water reclamation operations and maintenance.

  • BC EOCP Operator in Training MWWT Operators Certification.

  • Valid BC Driver’s License.

  • A combination of related education and experience may be considered.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of the principals, methods, equipment, and materials used in the water reclamation centre.

  • Ability to communicate information and/or work direction from oral and written instructions.

  • A mechanical aptitude and ability.

  • Physically capable of performing the duties of the position.

  • Ability to use a SCBA.

  • All materials, tools and equipment used in the operation and maintenance of the water reclamation centre and related facilities.

  • SCADA computers, PC computers, related software, and general office equipment.

  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to undertake additional training relating to the duties of the position including progress towards a MWWT I Certification.

  • Required to fit test respirators and SCBA's consistent with manufacturer specifications.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Water Quality Technology Diploma or equivalent.

  • BC Driver’s License, Class I with Air Endorsement.

  • BC EOCP Chlorine Handlers Certificate.

  • WHIMS Training.

  • Level I First Aid.
