Job Description

Should the successful applicant be a Unifor Unit 1 bargaining unit member, who meets the eligibility conditions of Article 19.02 of the Unifor Unit 1 Collective Agreement, then the Limited Term Assignment will be defined as a Career Growth Opportunity in accordance with Article 19 of the Unifor Local 5555 Unit 1 Collective Agreement.

Develop and deliver credit and collections programs for University receivables. Administer collections activity, financial reporting and recovery process to maximize University revenues while at the same time maintaining customer good will toward the University. Provide ongoing financial advising and counselling services to students, parents, including reviewing accommodations, support resourcing, budgeting, financial forecasting and account management while complying with institutional policies, provincial and federal regulatory and statutory requirements

  • Develop and deliver credit and collections plans and communication schedules.
  • Conduct one-on-one financial advising appointments for students to review issues and customize solutions for financial health, and continued success.
  • Negotiate customized re-enrolment and payment plans with debtors, debt collections, collection agencies and credit bureaus.
  • Provide ongoing advising, support and advocacy across campus for students needing financial accommodations.
  • Develop and cultivate working relationships with a variety of stakeholders, both internal and external to the University
  • Act as business process owner and trainer for collections modules.
  • Act as main point of contact and key liaison for collection agencies and credit bureau operations.
  • Collect, analyze, assess, and summarize information relevant to the decision making process and develop recommendations for final approval and implementation.
  • Actively attend, develop and deliver financial presentations at internal and external events.
  • Complete timely and regular reporting relating to collections. Determine success, trends, benchmarks and identify when/if issues arise.
  • Assist with the development, recommendation and implementation of University financial policies, plans and guidelines regarding collections and management of customer accounts.
  • Investigate, analyze, calculate, adjust and explain account activity to others.
  • Prepare month reporting for management regarding customer accounts recommended for collection agency placement.
  • Analyze customer accounts and external funding documents to create workable financial plans.
  • Plan and coordinate a variety of events and activities such as training sessions, meetings and information sessions.
  • Explain detailed account activity to stakeholders including but not limited to, students and parents.
  • Coordinate with University offices and the OMBUDS on escalated cases to resolve.
  • Create, edit and update a variety of information sources, including website, brochures, posters, bookmarks, signage and social media
  • Participate in the selection process of collections agency.
  • Review contracts between University and Collection Agencies and make recommendations.
  • Read and interpret government and legal documents
