Financial Director
About the role
About the Company
Our client is a well-established and respected wood products manufacturer with operations in British Columbia and the United States. The company produces both commodity and specialty wood products and is recognized for its operational excellence, sustainable practices, and strong market presence.
As the organization continues to evolve and grow, it seeks a strategic financial executive to lead its finance function across multiple divisions and geographies. This is a critical leadership opportunity for a forward-thinking professional who thrives in a dynamic manufacturing environment and understands the complexities of cross-border operations.
Position Overview
The Director of Finance will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for guiding the financial direction of the company and supporting operational decision-making. This individual will oversee all financial activities, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, risk management, treasury, and financial reporting. The Director of Finance will work closely with operations leadership to ensure the financial infrastructure, controls, and systems support the company’s strategic goals and continued growth in both Canadian and U.S. markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all financial operations across multiple business units in Canada and the United States.
- Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and industry trends.
- Manage all aspects of financial reporting, internal controls, and regulatory compliance, including cross-border tax and accounting requirements.
- Serve as a key advisor to the CEO and executive team, contributing to long-term planning and business strategy.
- Evaluate and implement systems, tools, and processes that enhance financial efficiency, transparency, and scalability.
- Lead and mentor a high-performing finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders including auditors, banks, and regulatory authorities.
- Contribute to capital planning, investment evaluation, and risk mitigation initiatives, with a keen eye on market dynamics and cost optimization.
Candidate Profile
We are seeking a seasoned finance leader with a deep understanding of financial management within a manufacturing environment—ideally in the forestry, lumber, or engineered wood products sector. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable in the boardroom and on the plant floor, with the ability to translate financial insights into operational improvements.
Qualifications
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is required.
- Demonstrated experience with financial systems, compliance, and reporting standards in both Canada and the United States.
- Minimum of 5 years in senior finance executive roles, ideally within a multi-divisional, cross-border manufacturing environment.
- Deep understanding of the forest products sector is strongly preferred; experience with wood manufacturing processes (lumber, engineered wood, etc.) is a significant asset.
- Strong leadership acumen with a record of building and developing high-performing teams.
- High level of personal integrity, sound judgment, and the ability to act as a trusted advisor to the executive team and board.
