THE OPPORTUNITY
Ram Iron & Metal is looking for a talented and driven Maintenance & Environment Technician to join our Team. The Maintenance & Environment Technician, under the direction of the Lead Hand, Service Maintenance, will be responsible for overseeing general housekeeping duties around the yard, along with environmental mandated requirements.

OVERVIEW
The successful candidate must be comfortable working outdoors in all types of weather conditions. The Maintenance & Environment Technician is expected to have the ability to learn and assist in several aspects of our daily operations, operating mobile equipment, and generally is in regular collaboration and communication with Management, yard personnel, drivers and contractors.
RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITES
- Receive, organize, stock, and maintain accountability of parts inventory, ensuring accuracy and availability for mechanics as needed.
- Assist Welders and Mechanics with light repairs as required, providing support to ensure efficient completion of tasks.
- Conduct daily inspections of environmental management tools and equipment to ensure they are in good working order, reporting any issues to the Supervisor for quick and effective resolution.
- Operate a street sweeper, forklift and/or bobcat as required, with training available if no previous experience, in order to facilitate the movement of parts, equipment and perform maintenance tasks as necessary.
- Assist with washing vehicles, trucks, and equipment using a power washer, maintaining cleanliness and appearance standards.
- Complete general housekeeping duties around the yard, including emptying containers with garbage/waste and spent oils from equipment, machinery, or vehicles.
- Paint various sized bins, containers, pieces of equipment, machinery, or vehicles to ensure proper identification and aesthetics.
- Assist Parts Runner, in pickups and drop offs of commercial and industrial items, including drums, equipment, oils, lubricants, fuel and materials.
- Ensure a clean and organized work environment by regularly performing housekeeping tasks, including cleaning equipment and work areas to promote safety and efficiency.
- Conduct regular inspections of catch basins and manholes to assess their condition and coordinate appropriate responses for maintenance or repairs as needed to ensure proper drainage and prevent environmental hazards.
- Perform regular maintenance of the stormwater management system, including completing detailed inspection reports and capturing scientific data necessary for monitoring and compliance reporting to the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) and the City of Toronto.
- Perform water sampling in accordance with established procedures, ensuring samples are collected with integrity, while maintaining sampling equipment and tools in good, clean working condition to ensure accurate results.
- Operate a sweeper truck to mitigate airborne dust and maintain cleanliness in the work environment, ensuring compliance with environmental standards and promoting a safe workplace.
- Other duties as required, not limited to responsibilities listing above.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Valid Driver’s License (G) with a clean drivers abstract
- Knowledge of metal materials is an asset.
- Experience with a forklift (valid forklift certification on Counterbalance).
- Experience with skid-steer is an asset.
- Previous experience and willingness to working outdoors.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The working environment is busy and fast paced, with regular and ongoing interactions with colleagues, management, and the public at large. There may be frequent interruptions, and from time to time be noisy. The employee must have knowledge of how to manage their own personal safety under these conditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Standing for extended periods, walking, and using their arms and hands. Occasional tasks may involve climbing fixed ladders on trucks and bins, climbing ladders or stairs, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving items. While performing job duties that involve lifting, the employee should be capable of lifting weights up to 50lbs.
