We are currently recruiting Intermediate DCS/PLC Engineers/Technologists based in our Calgary and Edmonton, AB offices.

InnoTech’s primary services are Controls (PLC, DCS, SCADA), Electrical (low and medium voltage), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) engineering, and OT Lifecycle Planning and Cybersecurity.

Position Summary

If you're chosen for this role, you'll join our team of highly skilled engineers and technologists to develop electrical, instrumentation, and controls designs to successfully deliver projects for our clients. You will apply industrial process automation technology with mentorship from our experienced staff. Role and Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to an Engineering Team Lead, the team member’s primary responsibility will be focusing on achieving project goals by collaborating with cross-discipline engineering teams.
  • Prepare conceptual engineering solutions including scope of work, cost estimates and implementation planning.
  • Design, implementation, and commissioning of client facilities’ PLC systems as an integrated component of their process control systems.
  • Review and develop Shutdown Keys, Cause & Effect diagrams, and Control Narratives.
  • Develop and implement long term DCS/PLC system upgrades and maintenance plans.
  • Identify PLC system reliability issues and take the required action to resolve them in a team environment involving Operations, Maintenance and Process Engineering.
  • Participate in on-site information gathering and commissioning support.
  • Participate in control system testing.
  • Support the design, maintenance, and integration of client facilities’ OT networks.
  • Ensure that OT networks are designed and maintained as per recommended procedures and practices.
  • Apply vendor-approved anti-virus updates, Windows patches, and hotfixes on a regular basis.
  • Support the development of backup procedures and disaster recovery plans. Support the implementation of those procedures.
  • Support the implementation of OT Cybersecurity Standards.
  • Perform health assessments and security audits.
  • Participate in the administration and maintenance of network monitoring and management systems, including configuration management and network health checks.
  • Provide technical support to project team members, including assigning and tracking project deliverables by junior staff.
  • Comply with all HS&E requirements in the performance of this position’s responsibilities.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A technical diploma or university degree in a relevant discipline is required.
  • 4+ years of experience with Industrial Control Systems (ICS) in a design role is required.
  • Registered or future eligibility as an Engineer in Training (EIT) with APEGA or as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) with ASET.
  • 3+ years working with Rockwell Automation PLC for Industrial facilities is required, including advanced programming skills. The ability to develop new programs as well as make online and offline updates is required.
  • 3+ years working with and developing Shutdown Keys, Cause & Effect diagrams, and Control Narratives is required.
  • Experience in oil and gas, petrochemical, pulp and paper, or electrical power systems is required.
  • Experience in delivering high quality customer service to a broad range of customers.
  • Experience supporting cyber and networks assets in an operating facility.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience managing virtualized servers and workstations, enterprise server hardware, and firewalls; network management and monitoring (e.g., SolarWinds); system backup and restore.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with DCS experience in addition to a focus on PLCs.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience implementing ICS cybersecurity standards (e.g., IEC 62443, NIST SP 800-82).
  • In addition to the technical components of the role, you should demonstrate the values and disciplines of our organization: a questioning attitude, a desire to improve, accountability, and collaboration, including strong communication skills and the ability to build functional relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; fluency in English is essential.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, and Teams).
  • Willingness to travel – travel to customer sites will be required (approximately 10%).
  • Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
