About the role:

Reporting to the Shovel Crew Supervisor, Maintenance, the Crane Operator Journeyperson is responsible for safely operating the Crane to provide operational support in an open pit coal mine by relocating and repositioning equipment and materials. This is a temporary six-month contract position offering an attractive 4x4 day shift schedule.

The position is site-based at our operations in the Elk Valley, and the ability to reliably commute to or relocate near Sparwood, B.C is necessary.

In this role you will:

  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Setup crane for lifting including mobilizing and stabilizing, calculating crane capacities, determining load weights and drafting lift plans
  • Operate conventional and hydraulic mobile Cranes, up to 200 ton, to lift, move, position or place equipment and materials
  • Ability to perform various types of rigging to efficiently complete minor to complex jobs
  • Perform routine maintenance work, such as cleaning and lubricating cranes

Requirements:

  • Crane Operator Interprovincial Red Seal Certificate
  • Preference will be given to applicants holding a Mobile Crane Operator Hydraulic 300 ton and Under Certificate
  • Valid driver's license
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Previous mining experience is an asset

Hourly rate: $52.72

Base earnings reflected in salary range includes the hourly wage plus applicable shift premiums and will differ depending on location. It is calculated using a reasonably expected number of hours worked per year.
