As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist you will:
- Perform additional procedures/techniques and related duties within Nuclear Medicine such as radiopharmaceutical manufacturing and special cell labelling for lower mainland hospitals.
- Perform duties including;
- preparing and dispensing radiopharmaceuticals for shipping,
- labelling cells using sterile techniques,
- instructing manufacturing and cell labeling techniques to staff,
- operating nuclear medicine laboratory equipment,
- performing routine quality control tests on equipment and radiopharmaceuticals,
- monitoring radioactive storage areas utilizing appropriate detection devices and disposing of radioactive substances and contaminated items by following established guidelines.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Certification with the CAMRT (Nuclear Medicine).
- Two (2) years' recent, related experience in radioisotope imaging and radiopharmacy dispensing or an equivalent of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge of theory and practice of radiopharmacy dispensing and radiation safety practices.
- Demonstrated ability of aseptic techniques.
- Demonstrated knowledge and practice of safe work procedures with nuclear medicine laboratory equipment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of good manufacturing practices (GMP).
- Demonstrated knowledge of radiopharmacy equipment and computer applications.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Bio Rx applications.
- Demonstrated knowledge of CNSC, WCB, and TDG regulations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of research processes and methodology.
- Demonstrated ability to perform radioisotope laboratory examinations in compliance with departmental standards.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
- Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.
- Demonstrated ability to instruct personnel and students.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to multiple and changing priorities.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a computerized patient care/radiopharmacy information system.
Closing Statement
Radiopharmacy experience is preferred. The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check. As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
