Edmonton Catholic Schools is looking for a Printing Services (6) to join their Printing Services team at Facility Services! The job provides cost effective and high quality duplicating and bindery services. Work is received either in hardcopy or electronically and the job compiles the data and recommends the most efficient and cost effective method of production. The incumbent scans materials into a high production copier or a colour copier; images are manipulated and final copies are produced. The job operates complex reproduction equipment. The incumbent receives all jobs in electronic format, both colour and black and white, and is solely responsible for the production of colour material. The incumbent is expected to share specialist knowledge with less experienced operators and delegates work to the Operators, so this is a lead-hand job without formal supervision.

  1. Job requests
  • Receive all jobs requests from Division and outside clients
  • Review requests and documents for completeness and image quality
  • Contact client to identify needs and provide advice on colour and image to ensure high quality production
  • Suggest alternatives to enhance quality of production
  • Assign work to respective Operators
  1. Reproduction equipment
  • Consult with clients to determine needs and the most appropriate method of production of large-scale production projects
  • Operate a variety of printing devices
  • Perform set-up, formatting, editing and image enhancement
  • Manage print queues, schedule jobs, and direct job flow through the job manager workstation
  • Monitor jobs as they are running, interrupt production to ensure copy quality on the appropriate type and size of paper
  • Schedule, operate and maintain two or more machines
  1. Bindery equipment
  • Provide cutting, stapling, collating, jogging, drilling, coiling, paper banding and padding services
  • Meet emergency deadlines and rush jobs
  • Package and shrink wrap material for distribution
  • Laminate a range of educational material, maps, posters and other resources
  1. Recordkeeping and inventory control
  • Maintain daily, weekly and monthly production records
  • Ensure adequate supplies are available
  • Order and maintain an inventory of supplies
  • Manage recycling of dry ink
  • Ensure dry ink and waste containers are available
  1. Maintenance
  • Identify problems and determine if a service technician is required
  • Adjust equipment and perform minor repairs
  • Perform basic maintenance.
  • Maintain daily, weekly and monthly production records
  1. Unit operations
  • Manage the day-to-day operations in the area
  • Participate in planning
  • Assist co-workers during period of peak workloads

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma, Docutech certification supplemented by related technical training, plus five years directly related experience

  • Strong technical knowledge of the Docutech Publisher and colour copier functions in order to manipulate and customize data and images.
  • Working knowledge of network servers, print drivers and queue management.
  • Knowledge of print production industry and standard
  • Knowledge of project management and inventory control principles and techniques
  • Knowledgeable in the use a variety of bindery equipment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft programs (Word, Outlook), Internet and industry specific computer programs to produce materials
  • Considerable knowledge of safety standards and safe use of equipment, tools, appliances and chemicals acquired through training in Occupational Health and Safety
  • General knowledge of the Division’s and department’s business, operations and programs
  • Strong teamwork and leadership skills with the ability to work as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to relay technical information to clients
  • Strong needs assessment skills and the ability to be innovative and creative
  • Strong problem-solving and consultation skills and the ability to recommend alternatives
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to manage conflicting priorities, anticipate demands, plan work accordingly to deliver products on a timely basis.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment and perform heavy lifting
  • Ability to handle associated stress
