Position Summary:
Reporting to the Manager of Centre for Problem Gambling & Digital Dependency or designate, the Gambling/Gaming Addictions Support Worker is responsible for providing safe, comprehensive direct and indirect client care procedures in a 24 hour environment. To participate in and promote a resident/family centred interdisciplinary team approach to service. Incumbent must demonstrate the values of Hotel Dieu Grace Healthcare and to contribute positively to the mission and vision of the program and organization. The Gambling/Gaming Addictions Support Worker complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Standards for the hospital and is proactive in promoting a safe work environment.
Qualifications:
Minimum One Year related experience in addictions/problem gambling - preferred;
If recovering problem gambler, must have three years of continuous abstinence;
Good knowledge of phases, progression and symptoms of gambling addiction
Demonstrated ability to deal with addictions in a supportive, non-judgemental manner
Good communication and interpersonal skills;
Proven ability to maintain accurate and appropriate case notes;
Provide education verbally and through the use of videos, DVD’s, overheads for gamblers and family members
Ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary care team;
Ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment
General good health and a level of fitness appropriate for the demands of the position
Excellent communication skills with the command of the French language considered an asset.

Education and/or Certification:
Addictions Diploma from a university or community college of recognized standing - required
Grade XII, or equivalent – required
Certifications in CPR –preferred
