About the role

Job Description Refinery Superintendent – Windsor, ON Windsor Processing Plant

This is a full time, salaried, exempt level position.

This position will be responsible for many of the day-to-day activities as well as long-term planning for the refinery department with the Windsor Plant. The Refinery Superintendent requires demonstrated skills in the areas of employee relations and people management, leadership including short and long term strategic planning as well as ensuring safety and quality.

The Refinery Superintendent will also contribute to meeting plant goals, cost management targets and ensuring employee development. Skills in all areas of communication as well as effective listening and self-motivation will be essential to success in this position.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Must rely on their experience, good judgement and planning to ensure effective planning to accomplish goals, implement operational procedures and training as well as to enforce company plans, policies and rules.
  • Demonstrate leadership in safety, food safety, environmental stewardship, quality and production. Does so by leading by example.
  • Train, develop and motivate direct reports as well as monitor ongoing success of the training program for the department.
  • Work effectively with the Extraction Superintendent and Plant and Refinery Managers as well as other members of leadership within the facility.
  • Communicate with management and employees both verbally and in writing.
  • Manage employees in a professional, fair, consistent, direct and clear manner.
  • Review direct report performance.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Agricultural Engineering preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with experience in food/agricultural/chemical processing preferred or equivalent experience within a food or agricultural processing manufacturing facility in roles of increasing responsibility.
  • Strong commitment to safety, food safety, environmental stewardship, quality and production.
  • Excellent problem solving skills - ability to look beyond the task at hand, to anticipate challenges and develop options to overcome them.
  • Experience with computers, specifically with Microsoft Office is necessary.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Prompt attendance.
  • Able to climb stairs and ladders, lift and move a minimum of 50 pounds, sit and stand for long periods of time, work in confined spaces and at heights, bend and kneel as required and must be able to wear a respirator.
  • Able to work in a variety of environmental conditions.
  • Personnel management in a unionized environment is a plus.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Agricultural Engineering, or related technical field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in food, agricultural, or chemical processing.
  • Demonstrated leadership in safety, quality, and environmental compliance.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and production systems.
  • Ability to work in varied environmental conditions and meet physical requirements (e.g., climbing, lifting, confined spaces).
  • Experience in a unionized manufacturing environment is a plus.
