Job Description
The South Island Department of Psychiatry has an opening for a part-time Psychiatrist to join an Intensive Case Management (ICM) team. The successful candidate will provide psychiatric assessment, case formulation, and medication management to patients with severe substance use and concurrent disorders. The patient population will be based in South Island (Victoria), and include adult patients either experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity. Services are to be provided on-site in Island Health and community and housing facilities, as well as by virtual care and by phone.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide psychiatric services within a community based outreach team, in collaboration with other physicians and health professionals, including, but not limited to addiction medicine physicians, nurse practitioners, case managers and nurses.
- Work with internal Island Health stakeholders and community based external agencies (such as the Victoria Cool Aid Society).
- Provide psychiatric services as a member of the Intensive Care Management (ICM) team for at least 44 weeks per year.
- Participate in all departmental, clinical and operational team meetings and take on a lead role when required.
- On call responsibility is mandatory for Island Health psychiatry services.
- Opportunity for training of medical students and residents and applying for a clinical appointment is expected.
- Participation in research is strongly encouraged and facilitated by Island Health.
Required Qualifications
- Eligible for full Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC).
- FRCPC or FRCPC Eligible.
- Additional training in Addiction Medicine is desired.
- Relevant experience working with the population is strongly preferred.
- Strong commitment to collaborative team-based interdisciplinary practice and excellent communication skills are essential.
Additional Information
All part-time Psychiatry positions can be combined with available other part-time positions to create a rewarding and diverse full-time Psychiatry practice.
