About the role

The Manager Personal Finance (MPF) supports the Branch Manager in the strategic planning, organization and administration of all related sales and service functions and activities. The MPF provides leadership through continuous learning, performance assessment, coaching and recognition to a team of sales professionals who are working towards achieving referrals, sales and service targets.

About the Role

The MPF supports the Branch Manager in various capacities, ensuring that the team meets its sales and service targets while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Provide training, coaching, monitoring and supervision to a team of sales-oriented staff in order to meet sales, referrals and service targets.
  • With Branch Manager, assists in the planning and monitoring of the Branch Annual Operating Plan.
  • Oversees operational cash and custody controls executed by staff.
  • Accountability and oversight for all compliance and cash control procedures including branch verification binder.
  • Assists in audit and monitoring of Branch Reports.
  • Filtering and distribution of communications in a timely manner.
  • Coordination and administration of sales campaign with Branch Manager.
  • Resolves problems and member complaints to ensure the needs of members and Alterna are met.
  • Ensures sales meetings and morning huddles are ongoing by planning content with Branch Manager.
  • Ensures team is up to date on all industry and corporate changes.
  • Conducts performance appraisals of direct reports and assists them in setting goals in accordance with established performance standards.
  • Identifies performance problems of direct reports, initiate corrective action and make recommendations including termination if necessary.
  • Participates in interviews for prospective employees.
  • Serves as Acting Manager in the absence of Branch Manager.

  • Sales activities are organized and executed as per branch tactical plan.
  • Opportunities to retain and grow the business of members are capitalized on.
  • Staff development plans are in place for all branch employees.
  • Sales leadership fundamentals (meetings) with employees are conducted as expected (weekly goal setting, monthly review, and monthly side by side observation).
  • Individual sales plans are established.
  • Participates in Head Office initiatives as assigned by Branch Manager.
  • The staff are engaged, resulting in achieving all expectations.
  • Alterna members will view the organization as exceeding their expectations in terms of service quality and loyalty.
  • Staff adhere to code of conduct and service standards.
  • Branch Sales and Referral Objectives are attained.
  • All Operational and Risk Management policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Identify and duly note any exceptions to policy and procedures when recommending approval for credit.

Qualifications

  • Thorough understanding of sales process and sales management.
  • Thorough understanding of coaching principles.
  • Completion of CSC or IFIC.
  • University degree / college diploma with 5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Thorough understanding of credit granting principles with a lending limit and solid knowledge of Investments.
  • PFP or CFP recommended but not required.
  • PC literate (familiarity with Windows and MS Office based technologies).
  • Thorough understanding of Alterna products and services.
  • Knowledge of the (internal/external) member’s unique characteristics.
  • Industry and marketplace knowledge in order to enhance the ability to develop creative and high-quality solutions to the member’s needs, which include the development and maintenance of internal and external networks.

Required Skills

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of sales disciplines and a demonstrated ability to motivate and coach a diverse team to achieve sales results.
  • Solid knowledge of credit union products, services, philosophies and principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of credit and investment products, legislation, regulations and policies.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills that enable effective interaction with teams, colleagues, and members.
  • Ability to lead, implement and promote change initiatives.
  • Demonstrates leadership that creates a positive team atmosphere and productive work environment.
  • Superior organization and planning skills.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable using various computer applications.
  • Must be able to work Saturday.
  • Bilingualism - French & English is strongly preferred.
