The objective of the Centre for Water Resources Studies (CWRS) is to apply the research resources of Dalhousie University in a manner that will address real problems in water resources that exist or are anticipated in Nova Scotia, the Atlantic region and beyond.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager, HW Water and Wastewater Operations Research, the Technologist, HW Water and Wastewater Operations Research will support water and wastewater treatment-focused research projects with Halifax Water as part of an NSERC Alliance Partnership.
The purpose of this role is to strengthen on-site research collaboration with Halifax Water to ensure that individual research projects advance to meet the overarching program goals of our NSERC Alliance Partnership.
Key Responsibilities

Monitor, operate, repair, calibrate, maintain and troubleshoot bench-scale and pilot-scale processes and associated sensor instrumentation to treat water and wastewater, preparing and updating written standard operating protocols for these tasks as needed.

Test, operate and adjust treatment processes in accordance with research plans and experimental designs developed in collaboration with researchers, industry partners and students, and in response to analyze results and environmental/operational conditions.

Collect and analyze water and wastewater samples following appropriate standard methods and operating procedures.

Maintain a safe work environment at research sites through collaboration with researchers, industry partners, and students, providing mentorship and safety training and record keeping.

Maintain organized and detailed experimental results, operational, and maintenance records, including inventory of laboratory and process consumables, requesting materials as needed.
Note
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on research field sites.
Required Qualifications

Diploma in Environmental Engineering Technology or closely related engineering discipline, operator certification or eligibility to receive operator certification in Nova Scotia.

Minimum of 2 years of experience operating bench- and pilot-scale water and wastewater water treatment process equipment.

Excellent data organization and management skills and attention to detail.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Degree in environmental engineering or closely related engineering discipline.
