A Day in the Life We are seeking a Senior Principal Human Factors Engineer who brings deep domain expertise, strategic foresight, and a passion for human-centered innovation. You will lead high-impact programs that shape the design and development of next-generation cardiac products, ensuring seamless integration of the Voice of the Customer into our pipeline. In this highly visible role, you will act as a cross-functional leader and mentor, guiding teams through complex product development cycles to deliver safe, effective, and intuitive user experiences.

Cardiac Rhythm and Heart Failure offers devices and therapies to treat abnormal heart rhythms, as well as cardiac diagnostic and monitoring solutions.
A Day in the Life Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
- Serve as a strategic thought leader in Human Factors Engineering across multiple programs, influencing product design at the system level.
- Lead human-centered design efforts for complex product ecosystems, integrating software, hardware, and service experiences.
- Define and implement human factors strategies that align with business priorities and regulatory expectations.
- Champion customer and user needs from early-stage opportunity exploration through post-market surveillance.
- Direct and mentor HF teams and junior engineers across multiple projects or platforms.
- Design and execute formative and summative usability studies to support use-related risk analysis and design validation.
- Provide expert-level guidance on regulatory submissions (e.g., FDA, MDR) related to human factors and usability.
- Influence cross-functional stakeholders—including Engineering, Clinical, Regulatory, and Marketing—to optimize human-machine interfaces and improve user experience.
- Contribute to the advancement of internal HF/UX tools, processes, and best practices to enhance organizational capability.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements To be considered for this role, please ensure the minimum requirements are evident on your resume:
- Bachelor’s Degree with 10+ years of experience, or
- Master’s Degree with 8+ years of experience, or
Nice to have:
- Deep expertise in human factors engineering, usability testing, and application of IEC 62366 and related regulatory standards.
- Demonstrated leadership in medical device development, including FDA and international submissions.
- Strong track record of guiding product design decisions through rigorous user research and analysis.
- Skilled in influencing design direction and strategy in cross-functional and enterprise-wide settings.
- Experience leading human factors work for Class II or III medical devices.
- Experience scaling user research frameworks or HF tools across an organization.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills tailored to executive, technical, and regulatory audiences.
- Experience mentoring junior HFE team members and influencing organizational culture.
- Familiarity with systems engineering, cognitive task analysis, and digital health ecosystems.
- Up to 20% travel required.
