Department Information

The mandate of the Department of Justice is to administer justice, including policing, community justice, victims services and corrections in the Northwest Territories. This mandate will be carried out in a manner which respects community and indigenous values and encourages communities to assume increasing responsibilities.

Job Information

Located in Yellowknife, the Rental Office Coordinator reports to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Attorney General. You will support the contracted Chief Rental Officer and Deputy Rental Officers and coordinate the daily operations of the Rental Office. You provide administrative support to the Rental Officer to ensure inquiries and filed applications are correct and dealt with in a timely manner. You will assist the Rental Officer(s) to ensure that work is completed correctly and in compliance with the Rental Tenancies Act (RTA). You will provide information and respond to inquiries on the Residential Tenancies Act, with emphasis on procedures for making an application to the Rental Officer as well as applying the RTA to specific situations that Landlord/Tenants may find themselves in, and directing people to other helpful resources if needed. You will be the initial point of contact for the Rental Office, and works with Landlords, Tenants, Stakeholders, the public at large, and the Rental Officers who are independent contractors. Under the Evidence Act, the Coordinator must maintain an appointment as a Commission for Oaths or Notary Public to take oaths and affirmations from clients and colleagues.

Key Qualifications:

  • A relevant office administration or financial administration certificate/diploma (as applicable to the program), with a minimum of 1 year of experience that includes directly leading the resolution of client concerns.
