Job Description

Position: Developmental Service Worker (DSW)

Position offered through the Canada Summer Jobs program.

Location: Hamilton

Start Date: ASAP

Duration: 8 Weeks

This temporary employment is made possible and supported by Employment and Social Development Canada.

Overview

Work as part of a team to provide quality ongoing support for adults with developmental and physical disabilities in maximizing their potential in a safe, nurturing environment.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Work alongside LUSO staff in implementing various activities
  • Work with clients individually and in small groups while encouraging decision making, independence and personal growth
  • Assist clients during activities, whether it be with verbal cues, hand-over-hand assistance, encouragement or any way that helps the client fully participate in the activity
  • Develop activities that can be implemented with clients such as education-based, sensory or life skills activities
  • Adhere to all LUSO policies and procedures
  • Be proactive in ensuring the safety of oneself and clients
  • Report any incidents, injuries or seizure-related occurrences to supervisor or manager
  • Assist with daily maintenance activities
  • Assist with feeding during snack and lunchtime
  • Assist with technology support

Must meet the participant requirements under the Canada Summer Jobs Agreement with Employment and Social Development Canada as outlined:

  • is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
  • is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*; and is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
  • International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.

Details:

Hours of employment: 5 days/week, 35 hours a week from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. Scheduled half-hour lunch. Scheduling of weekly hours may change, as dictated by organizational needs.

Salary: Hourly rate is $18.00/hour

Location of Employment: Luso Support Centre Hamilton

Reporting to: Program Supervisor
