Nurse Practitioners, Cowichan Urgent and Primary Care Centre (Cowichan PCN) (200-1647)

The Cowichan PCN is looking for Nurse Practitioners to join the new UPCC opening soon in Cowichan. Work alongside other Nurse Practitioners, Family Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Social Workers, Mental Health workers and Medical Office Assistants in a highly collaborative and supportive clinic environment to deliver comprehensive care to patients across the lifespan, from newborns to seniors, with a focus on building lasting relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Comprehensive Patient Care: Diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic health conditions for patients of all ages, including preventive care, health screenings, vaccinations, and minor procedures.
  • Chronic Disease Management: Oversee the management of long-term health conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and cardiovascular disease.
  • Women’s Health & Mental Health: Provide care for women’s health needs (e.g., Pap smears, contraception) and offer mental health support (e.g., anxiety, depression).
  • Telehealth & In-Person Appointments: Offer both in-person and telehealth services to meet the diverse needs of your patients. Charting will be completed using Telus Med Access EMR, ensuring seamless integration with our clinic’s systems and efficient patient care documentation.
  • Pre-booked & Same-Day Access Appointments: Provide both pre-booked and same-day access appointments for clinic patients to ensure timely care and flexibility.

Overhead

The Ministry provides funding for NP overhead; the current available amount is $75,000 per FTE.

Cowichan residents are currently served by Island Health’s Cowichan District Hospital, a 148-bed acute care facility. The new Cowichan District Hospital is under construction now and is scheduled to open in 2027. The new hospital will be 56,448 square-metres (607,601 square-feet) in size, more than three times larger than the current facility and will have capacity for 204 beds.
