Your new company
We are working with a growing construction company based in Burnaby looking to bring in a Project Accountant as an additional position in the team.
As the Project Accountant, you will be responsible for assembling customer billing packages and maintaining project-related records. The ideal candidate for this role will have proven experience of developing strong relationships with stakeholders and looking to take ownership of their work.
Your new role
- Prepare and compile client billing packages—including invoices, schedules of values, and statutory declaration forms—accurately and within contractually required deadlines.
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including contracts, change orders, key terms, insurance certificates, holdbacks, invoices, payments, and related correspondence.
- Generate and deliver summary statements of outstanding balances to clients, and proactively follow up on collections and pending change orders.
- Perform account reconciliations for projects, focusing on billing and collections accuracy.
- Foster strong client relationships by addressing and resolving payment issues and disputes in a timely manner.
- Investigate project variances and payment discrepancies, collaborating with relevant stakeholders to identify and implement resolutions.
- Ensure all procedures related to progress draws, change orders, and holdbacks are executed efficiently and in compliance with company policies.
- Produce internal reports detailing invoice and payment activity for management review.
- Set up new projects in the accounting system and ensure proper account closure upon project completion.
- Work collaboratively with team members to enhance billing and collections processes and drive continuous improvement.
What you'll need to succeed
- 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a similar position within construction
- Strong Microsoft Excel required
- Experience with Sage 300 is considered an asset.
- Strong attention to detail, with a proactive approach to following up and ensuring timely completion of outstanding tasks.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling professional interactions with clients and effective collaboration with internal teams.
- Self-motivated and accountable, with the initiative to take ownership of responsibilities and the judgment to seek support when needed.
