Job summary
MLT Aikins is looking for a litigation legal assistant responsible for providing administrative and clerical support in the bankruptcy & insolvency group of the Vancouver office. Our ideal candidate is highly organized, has excellent interpersonal and communication skills, can follow instructions with minimal supervision and thrives in a fast-paced, professional environment.
Responsibilities include:
- Copy editing and formatting legal correspondence and documents, including pleadings, affidavits, and court forms
- Filing documents with courts following British Columbia procedures and deadlines
- Assisting with trial and hearing preparation, including compiling briefs and organizing exhibits
- Performing various administrative tasks, including file opening and closing, billing and follow-up to review outstanding accounts, copying, and scanning
- Managing calendars, coordinating meetings, scheduling hearings, and monitoring deadlines
- Maintaining an efficient digital file system, utilizing strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
Qualifications include:
- Graduate of a recognized legal assistant program or equivalent
- Minimum five years of experience as a legal assistant in a litigation practice in BC
- Experience or familiarity with bankruptcy and insolvency law is strongly preferred
- Solid understanding of BC Supreme Court Civil Rules and litigation procedures
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- The ability to follow instructions with minimal supervision and to thrive in a fast-paced, professional team environment
- Advanced computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook, and document management software
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including proofreading, spelling and grammar skills
- Strong organization skills and exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
