Energy Superintendent
High Prairie, Alberta
Are you a certified 2nd Class Power Engineer ready to lead critical energy operations? In this role, you’ll oversee the safe and efficient performance of our wood-fired furnace, thermal oil heating system, Electrified Filter Bed (EFB) pollution control system, and essential mill infrastructure including fire protection and water treatment systems. Your leadership will ensure we meet production targets while upholding the highest standards in safety, quality, and cost control.
We’re looking for an experienced Energy Superintendent to join our Oriented Strand Board (OSB) mill located in High Prairie, Alberta. Our mill has undergone an exciting major rebuild and modernization including the commissioning of a new continuous press which will makes us the most modern mill in North America.
Our ideal candidate has the following qualifications:

2****nd Class Power Engineering Certification.
-
Previous supervisory experience coupled with demonstrated ability to work effectively with others.
-
Experience operating automated or computerized control systems.
-
Experience operating a thermal oil system.
-
Excellent communication skills.
-
Proven leadership skills.
-
Experience with JDE or an alternative CMMS.

In this role you will:
-
Lead and oversee the plant asset protection portfolio in alignment with the Tolko Property Conservation Manual, insurance recommendations, and regulatory requirements. Ensure improvement projects are planned and implemented.

Support and explore innovative ideas that further Tolko’s strategic plan.
-
Develop standard operating procedures for repetitive work.
-
Monitor performance relative to targets, generate reports/trends and communicate performance to the mill personnel.
-
Set up training schedules for the Energy/Drying Team.
-
Act on opportunities to maximize plant uptime and production through effective utilization of resources.
-
Work closely with other departments for process improvements and problem solving.
-
Utilize current systems and processes to assist maintenance in the identification of repairs.
-
Provide maintenance downtime support for operational and maintenance tasks.
-
Operate in a safe manner in accordance with Worksafe rules, regulations, and policies.
-
Recognize and eliminate all safety hazards.
-
Train employees in safe working practices to ensure compliance with regulations and Tolko policies.
-
Support employee development of direct reports through coaching, feedback and performance management.
-
Communicate effectively with Team Leaders, Senior Operators and all other team members.
-
Assist the tradespeople in preventative maintenance and repair activities on the equipment of the area.

Complete appropriate log reports and data collection sheets as required.

You’ll earn a competitive salary based on your skills and experience. The expected base salary range for this position is $95,250 to $127,000 per year**.**

You'll earn an additional Northern Location Payment on top of your base pay.
