About the role

Do you thrive on contributing to the financial reporting process, ensuring its dependability and effectiveness? Does learning about the ins and outs of a fast-paced public SaaS company excite you?

As Thinkific’s Financial Reporting Manager (18-month contract) , you will be taking on responsibility for all external financial reporting matters, including technical accounting analyses, as well as ownership over the preparation of the financial statements MD&A, Annual information form and Management information circular. You’ll work closely with our Controller, VP, Finance, FP&A team, and external advisors to drive a robust quarterly reporting process.

Your key goal will be to execute on the full financial reporting cycle. Here’s how you’ll accomplish this:

  • Own and continuously improve the preparation and review of the quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements & MD&A, actively collaborating with Investor Relations to ensure a cohesive and compelling narrative across all external communications
  • Prepare, review, implement, and maintain corporate accounting policies across Thinkific
  • Lead the annual audit and quarterly reviews, building and maintaining strong working relationships with our auditors and advisers
  • Assess and document the impact and required disclosures for major transactions and complex accounting issues
  • Support the timely closure of technical accounting matters with external auditors through the preparation of accounting memos
  • Assist in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end procedures, including reviewing journal entries in complex accounting areas and updating schedules as necessary
  • Lead the company’s design, implementation, and testing of internal controls over financial reporting
  • Identify opportunities to streamline financial reporting processes, enhance efficiency, and strengthen controls
  • Prepare all quantitative and qualitative disclosures for annual reporting documents (such as MIC, AIF), working closely with our Legal team to ensure quality documents
  • Facilitate and lead meetings with senior leadership to present, interpret, and discuss key financial reports, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment on financial insights and business implications

The person we have in mind likely:

  • Has proven experience in a Financial Reporting role within a Canadian publicly listed company; experience in the technology sector is preferred but not essential
  • Has 6+ years of accounting experience, with 3 years post-designation experience preferred
  • Has previous experience at a Big 4 accounting firm
  • Holds a CPA designation and has a strong understanding of IFRS
  • Possesses advanced knowledge in Excel or Google Sheets and has experience with Workiva
  • Has the ability to think critically and solve problems independently, and has experience implementing accounting improvements
  • A strong interest in leveraging emerging AI technologies to enhance productivity and efficiency
  • Is highly organized and detail-oriented with excellent time management and communication skills
  • Loves to learn and grow. They’ve found (and keep looking for) ways to level up their skills in this field, whether that’s through formal education or gaining professional experience.

These things would also be nice, but we think you could learn them on the job:

  • Experience working in the technology industry
  • Experience with Workday Financials

The recruitment compensation range for this position is $113,000 – $141,000 CAD. Your specific compensation within this range is determined based on your job-related skills, knowledge, experience, and our internal equity assessment. Additionally, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
