Grenfell Community Elementary School offers grade Pre-K to Grade 6 programming to an enrolment of approximately 115students. Grenfell cis located 134 km east of Regina. This is a permanent part-time position that will commence as soon as possible.

Role Overview:
Under the direction of the school administrator for all day-to-day operations and the Caretaking Manager for all technical components, the caretaker is responsible for providing a safe, clean and healthy environment for students, staff and the public and overseeing day to day building operations, working as part of both the school-specific and Division-wide Facilities teams.

What you will do:

  • Proactively and thoroughly complete daily, weekly, monthly and annual cleaning, maintenance routines and grounds work as described in the Caretaker Manual and as required by the Facilities department and/or school-based administrator, meeting established standards.

  • Conduct required checks of HVAC equipment, Life Safety Systems (including basic visual checks of fire panels), facilities, grounds and equipment and all required documentation independently and accurately.

  • Work cooperatively with the school-based administrator and staff to support school and community events and activities.

  • Maintain adequate supplies of cleaning and paper products.

  • Carry out daily facility security requirements and respond to security alarms.

  • Complete minor maintenance and repairs, both independently and in consultation with Facility Maintenance Technicians, and proactively raise any building related concerns with the school-based administrator and/or Facilities managers.

  • Assist in working towards the maximum operational efficiency of the building including power, energy and water consumption.

  • Perform other duties as may be required or assigned by the school administrator and/or Caretaking Manager.

What will make you successful:

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.

  • Interest in obtaining or the completion of:

    • WHMIS training.
    • Fireman’s Certificate.
  • Minimum 3 years caretaking experience.

  • Knowledge and ability to safely monitor and reset a boiler and associated+ HVAC system.

  • Ability to safely operate floor cleaning, stripping and waxing equipment and outdoor equipment such as snow blowers and lawnmowers.

  • Ability to perform basic building maintenance and repair functions.

  • Ability to manage confidential material and maintain staff and student privacy.

  • Hourly rate range: $22.02- $25.75.
