Principal Tasks and Responsibilities Include:

• Perform complex reconciliations across trust, carrier, and premium-related accounts, including bank and balance sheet items.
• Review and validate internal reporting packages and supporting data before external submission to key stakeholders and partners.
• Maintain and monitor subledger accounts tied to receivables, payables, and vendor transactions related to premium operations.
• Identify and resolve discrepancies across multiple systems (GL, sales/AP, bank data), working closely with cross-functional teams.
• Extract and analyze large volumes of data to support reporting accuracy and operational integrity.
• Create reporting tools and dashboards to highlight outstanding items, risks, and follow-up actions.
• Respond to both internal and external inquiries related to accounting and reporting, including investigation and resolution of issues.
• Utilize Excel (including Power Query) and Great Plains (or similar) to manage reconciliations and reporting tasks.

Qualifications and Pre-Requisites:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business-or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, ideally in a high-volume or complex environment.
• Strong understanding of subledger accounting, trust or escrow processes, and transactional reconciliations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel at an advanced level, including Power Query or similar tools for data matching.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and troubleshoot across multiple data sources.
• Clear and confident communicator who's comfortable working with various internal stakeholders.
• Experience with Great Plains or similar ERP software is considered an asset.
• Prior experience in the insurance, financial services, or regulated industry space is a plus.

We're hiring on behalf of a global insurance and claims organization undergoing a major general ledger and subledger cleanup. This 18-month contract is a high-impact opportunity for a Senior Accountant to support complex reconciliations, premium trust reporting, and system alignment across finance and operations.

You'll be joining a project-focused team tasked with untangling years of backlog and helping lay the foundation for accurate and scalable processes going forward.

Location: Remote (Canada-based preferred)

What You'll Be Doing:

• Own and manage complex account reconciliations (bank, GL, subledger), working with large datasets (200,000+ transactions)
• Reconcile monthly premium trust reporting packages to accounting records, providing variance analysis and identifying timing differences
• Prepare monthly external reporting packages for insurance partners and upload to carrier portals in accordance with contract deadlines
• Manage subledger accounts tied to trust accounts - including customer/vendor activity and timely application of related payments
• Investigate mismatches in the finance system, including GL, AP, AR, and bank transactions
• Extract and reconcile data across multiple systems and sources; escalate and resolve data quality or mapping issues
• Build reports to flag outstanding issues, aging items, and remediation efforts
• Respond to internal and external inquiries, researching root causes of reporting gaps or variances
• Work collaboratively with Finance, Operations, and IT to design step-by-step reconciliation processes and sustainable controls

What You Bring:

• Strong experience with complex, high-volume account reconciliations
• Advanced Excel skills - including pivot tables, lookups, and working with large datasets
• Solid understanding of accounting principles and subledger-to-GL relationships
• Experience with premium trust accounting, third-party administrators (TPAs), or insurance/claims environments is a strong asset
• Comfortable navigating general ledger systems (Great Plains/GP experience is a plus)
• Highly analytical, organized, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
• CPA designation is preferred but not required
