Asphalt Plant Operator
Location: 1156 Jinkinson Road (Stittsville, Ontario)

Thomas Cavanagh Construction is seeking an experienced and hands-on Asphalt Plant Operator to oversee the daily operations of our asphalt production facility. This role is responsible for managing plant performance, coordinating production schedules, ensuring product quality, and conducting routine maintenance. The successful candidate will bring a strong mechanical aptitude, attention to safety, and the ability to lead a team while maintaining operational efficiency and product integrity.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate and monitor the asphalt plant, ensuring safe and efficient mixing, load-out, and production processes.
- Coordinate daily asphalt production based on customer orders and project requirements, ensuring timely fulfillment.
- Work closely with the Quality Control team to verify that mix specifications and quality standards are consistently met.
- Perform daily preventative maintenance tasks, including greasing bearings, adjusting belts, and inspecting critical systems.
- Inspect, clean, and lubricate conveyors, screens, and other plant components to maintain optimal equipment performance.
- Stay informed about industry trends, innovations in plant technology, and opportunities for process improvements.
- Perform manual labor tasks as required, including shoveling, using hand tools, and participating in clean-up and maintenance activities.
- Demonstrate mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues and perform minor repairs.
- Safely work at heights, including climbing silos and platforms as part of inspections or maintenance routines.
- Follow all safety procedures and operational guidelines as directed by supervisors and senior management.
- Assist with additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to ensure the smooth operation of the plant and support to the broader team.
Requirements:
- Proven experience working in or managing an asphalt plant or similar production environment.
- Strong mechanical background and familiarity with asphalt plant operations and equipment.
- Comfortable performing manual labor and working in outdoor conditions, including at heights.
- Ability to read and follow production schedules, work orders, and technical instructions.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
