Position Summary
Casual Part-Time Support Staff positions (September 1, 2025 – October 31, 2025)
The Medical Care Clinic is seeking a qualified part-time nurse to provide clinical support during peak periods. The successful candidate will assist clients in meeting placement health requirements and deliver nursing services in both scheduled appointments and walk-in clinics within the professional scope of nursing practice and medical directives.
Successful candidates will be offered to work a maximum of 24 hours per week, on-site, Monday to Friday, from 8:45 am to 4:15 pm at the Doon campus located at 299 Doon Valley Dr. Evening shifts from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm may also be required.
Responsibilities
Tuberculin skin testing
- Administer and interpret 1-step and 2-step TB skin tests for placement health requirements
- Arrange follow-up with Nurse Practitioner and/or Medical Doctor for a chest x-ray if the TB skin test is positive
Immunity titres
- Order immunity titres as per the medical directive under the Clinic Lead/Nurse Practitioner
- Draws immunity titres to show proof of immunity for measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), varicella, hepatitis B and rabies
- Interpret titre results in collaboration with the Clinic Lead and Nurse Practitioner, and arrange follow-up as needed
Immunizations
- Administer immunizations to clients according to the approved immunization schedule of the Canadian Immunization Guide, Public Health best practices, clinic policies and medical directives.
- Provide emergency assessment and treatment for allergic reactions and adverse complications as needed
Administrative Duties
- Triage referrals from Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) to the Medical Clinic for placement health requirements
- Arrange appropriate follow-up and book appointments for deficiency lists, TB skin testing and immunizations
Qualifications
- A two-year diploma in Practical Nursing is required
- Current Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in the province of Ontario, entitled to practice with no restrictions, is required
- Minimum two years of experience providing nursing assessments and treatments in a fast-paced setting, including administering vaccinations to adults, administering and interpreting TB skin tests, and venipuncture/phlebotomy
- A current Standard First Aid and CPR certificate is required
- Knowledge of testing and immunization requirements for healthcare professionals in community-based settings
- Proficient in interpreting laboratory reports
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment while exercising good clinical judgement
- Ability to establish priorities and flexibility in response to changing circumstances
- Highly developed communication and computer skills
- Experience with using electronic medical records; familiarity with Telus Practic Solutions is considered an asset
