Location: Oakville, Ontario, with occasional travel to London, Ontario – On-site
Duration: 8 Months
Position Summary:
We are seeking a motivated Articling Student (2025-2026) to assist our in-house legal team in supporting the company’s manufacturing operations globally. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in corporate law, commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, intellectual property, and cross-border legal matters within a dynamic and innovative aerospace manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the daily operations of the in-house legal department under the supervision of licensed legal professionals.
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements (e.g., supply contracts, NDAs, procurement agreements).
- Conduct legal research on regulations impacting manufacturing (e.g., environmental laws, labor standards, export controls).
- Support compliance and governmental reporting initiatives (anti-corruption, data privacy, trade compliance, export control, etc.).
- Contribute to the management of intellectual property matters, including trademarks, patents, and trade secrets.
- Assist with dispute resolution, including tribunal advocacy and coordination with external counsel on litigation matters.
- Support corporate immigration and border-crossing needs.
- Help maintain corporate records and contribute to internal policy development projects.
- Liaise with external legal counsel and government authorities, as needed. Prepare executive summaries of strategic importance, including legal documents and case laws for internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (operations, finance, HR) on legal projects.
Qualifications:
- Eligible to article in Ontario and/or registered with the Law Society of Ontario as an Articling Student in the 2025-2026 cycle.
- Completion of a J.D., LL.B., or equivalent law degree
- Academic or practical exposure to a combination of the following: corporate/commercial law, compliance, litigation or tribunal advocacy, employment law, immigration, IP law, or regulatory law.
- prior work and/or internship experience is a plus but not required.
- Excellent legal research, drafting, and communication skills.
- Strong analytical abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
- Proficient in legal research tools and Microsoft Office software.
- Team-oriented with a proactive and professional approach.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of international trade regulations, including INCOTERMS and U.S./EU export controls.
- Familiarity with legal and operational issues affecting the manufacturing and aerospace sectors (e.g., product liability, ESG compliance, industry-specific regulatory frameworks).
- Multilingual proficiency is considered an asset (e.g., Mandarin, German).
