Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Business and IT, the Sessional Lecturer provides instruction to undergraduate students in INFR 3345U – Modeling and Animation Systems II.

The current schedule is:
Thursday (Lecture) – 8:10 AM – 11:00 AM

Tuesday (Laboratory) – 2:10 PM – 3:30 PM

Course Description:

This course expands on the fundamental knowledge of developing 3D assets that were explored in Modeling & Animation Systems I (INFR2345U). This course focuses on the creation of high quality, low polygon models for use in gaming. Topics include polygon asset and character modeling, digital sculpting, UV layout techniques, skeleton systems, constraints and rigging elements to simplify the character animation process for real-time animation systems.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

The primary responsibility of the applicant is to (develop and) teach a theoretically, methodologically sophisticated and relevant course at the university level within the parameters of the course description listed above. In keeping with a technology-enhanced learning environment utilizing laptop computers and wireless connectivity, the Sessional Lecturer will deliver the course using a technology-enhanced learning approach that includes a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments. The Sessional Lecturer will prepare, deliver and grade all course material and assignments and be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session.

This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and PSAC. The collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.

Qualifications**:**

In addition to the Required Education, Required Skills, and Required Experience set out below, the successful candidate will have a proven aptitude for teaching at the undergraduate level, with demonstrated potential for making excellent contributions to teaching.

Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently, and shall be for the duration of the contract, legally eligible to work in Canada.

Note that this course will be delivered in-person at Ontario Tech University’s North Campus in Oshawa, Ontario.

Required Skills:

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in 3D Modeling for games using Blender.
  • Proficiency in surfacing and baking using tools such as Substance Painter, Substance Designer, and Marmoset Toolbag.
  • Experience preparing 3D assets for games.

Teaching and Administration Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to respond to student enquiries and to grade assignments and exams in a timely manner
  • High level of comfort with interacting with students and colleagues using online modalities such as Google Meet and Kaltura.
  • Ability to manage a course effectively using a Learning Management System.
  • An ability to develop innovative and inclusive teaching strategies
  • An ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural and diverse community

Education

Candidates must have one of the following:

  • A Bachelors degree in a game development program or computer science program AND at least two years of industry experience related to 3D game asset creation; OR
  • A College diploma in a game development program or computer science program AND at least five years of industry experience related to 3D game asset creation; OR
  • A Bachelors degree in a game development program or computer science program AND documented evidence of having taught this course or its equivalent (80% of content identical to INFR 3345) at the university level within the past three years; OR
  • A MSc in Computer Science; OR
  • A Masters in a degree directly related to game development.

Preference will be given to candidates with Masters or PhD degrees.

Required Experience

  • Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated excellence in teaching a course about gaming at the university undergraduate level.

  • Candidates can demonstrate their competence by submitting course evaluations and/or formal peer evaluations

  • Understanding the nature of small group work and experience producing and commercializing indie projects is an asset.

  • Candidates should provide a description of their experience in this regard in their application.

Priority will be given to an Internal Applicant who has taught any course for the University in three (3) different sessions in the past thirty-six (36) months, provided they meet the requirements for the position as outlined in the job posting.
