Position: Youth Care Worker- Casuals (s)

Location: Blue Turtle Healing Lodge, Winnipeg

Closing Date: July 18, 2025

Wage Scale: $16.61- $17.07 per hour

Neecheewam Inc. has casual positions available at Blue Turtle Healing Lodge, shifts will be Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 3 pm – 11 pm. These shifts will not be on a rotation. Blue Turtle Healing Lodge is a one bed placement program, with a Level 5 youth, it is essential that there is experience with working with high-risk youth: knowledge in sexually exploited youth, drug use and trauma.

Neecheewam is a professionally staffed community-based organization designed to meet the unique and individual needs of Indigenous youth requiring safe care. Treatment and healing from an Indigenous perspective will be realized through The Seven Sacred Teachings, which honour the universal values shared by all First Nations.

MISSON: Our mission is to provide healing lodges where the seven sacred teachings (love, respect, courage, humility, wisdom, honesty, and truth) are the path to wholeness.

a) Working in harmony with community -based programming and support services including public schools, youth justice, and mental health.

b) Recognizing, honoring, and promoting our children’s and youth’s Indigenous heritage and identity, in both traditional and contemporary ways of life.

c) Encouraging and supporting the children and youth we work with in acquiring the knowledge, skills, and confidence to transition into responsible, productive adults.

Responsibilities/ Duties:

  • Aware of the whereabouts of all residents always, as per program dictates and policies.
  • Assist with wake-up and bed-time routines.
  • Manage and direct all daily program activities.
  • Transport residents to appointments (medical & other) and any activities as required.
  • Direction and participation in daily chores.
  • Assist the residents in planning recreational activities.
  • Active involvement with residents in activities within the facility and in the community.
  • Encourage and assist with individual resident interest in lessons in sports, music, or other endeavors.
  • Assist in planning meals and grocery shopping.
  • Meal preparation-cooking and baking.
  • Teaching the residents about nutrition and healthy eating habits.
  • Participate in staff meetings and other meetings as requested.
  • Review all provincial programs and licensing standards and assist with their implementation in the program.
  • Provide input into all documentation, record keeping and report writing as required.
  • Involvement in learning opportunities and development of an attitude that promotes a relevance for learning in young people.
  • Develop an attitude that promotes positive teamwork and exhibits a high degree of positive role-modeling for young people.

Key Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Child & Youth Care Diploma preferred. Experience working with children, at-risk and sexually exploited youth. Education of youth with addiction, substance abuse and trauma.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of the Indigenous Culture, Traditions and Seven Sacred Teachings.
  • Knowledge of the social and economical issues affecting our indigenous children, families, and communities.
  • Knowledge of the impacts of colonization and intergenerational trauma.
  • Ability to work independently and as a valued team member in a group environment.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism when collaborating with CFS Agencies or any other related external organizations.
  • Organizational, problem solving, and analytical skills are necessary and possess a high level of advocacy skills.
  • Must have demonstrated verbal and written communication skills and decision-making skills.
  • Valid Winnipeg Police Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Prior Contact Check are required. All checks must be completed within a 3-month period from present date.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR required.
  • Valid Driver’s License an asset.
