About the role

Your Opportunity:

The Children's Day Treatment Program is a Mental Health Outpatient Program operating out of the Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary Alberta. We are a multidisciplinary team supporting, assessing and treating children in grades 3-7 in a school-like setting, who present with complex mental health challenges/diagnoses. Reporting to the area supervisor/manager, and working under the clinical direction of regulated health care professionals; PSRAs carry out assigned Care Plan activities with a Patient & family Centered approach to practice with adherence to Psychosocial Rehabilitation Values & Principles (building upon patient strengths, promoting shared decision making; 'developing' and encouraging use of individualized "wellness plans"; assisting patients to enhance and make use of their coping skills, and facilitating support system development). The PSRA helps to plan and organize age-appropriate individual/group activities and shares the responsibility for effective milieu management (routines, rules, expectations, safety precautions).

Description:

The Psychosocial Rehab Assistant (PSRA) works with a multidisciplinary team assisting with therapeutic programming within an in-patient or day treatment Mental Health program. Under the guidance of Registered Nurses and Family Counselors, the Psychosocial Rehab Assistant also supports the implementation of individual and group program plans for children and adolescents admitted to the mental health care unit. Knowledge and understanding of child and adolescent development, and therapeutic interventions is essential to optimal patient care. This specific PSRA opportunity involves offering therapeutic support to patients who may be holding in Emergency Department or who are placed 'off service' in medical units throughout the hospital.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of diploma in Social Work or Child and Youth Care or completion of Bachelor's Degree in Psychology .

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years' experience working with children aged 7-13 years old. Previous experience working with children and adolescents experiencing mental health crises or mental illness.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge and application of Trauma Informed Care. Knowledge and application of Attachment Theory. Knowledge and application or Patient and family centered care. Knowledge and application of Collaborative Problem Solving. Completion of the Brain Story Certification. Nonviolent Crisis intervention Training.
