About the role

Your Opportunity:

Due to an expansion of the Foothills Medical Center power plant, the FMC plant operations department is seeking an experienced 3rd class power engineer to join their team. Under direction of the plant manager and under the general supervision of a 2nd class power engineer, this position monitors, controls and assists in the regulation of a first-class power plant and related systems utilizing initiative and judgment in accordance with regulatory bodies (ABSA) and legislative requirements and limitations, policies and procedures.

Representative duties include monitoring, adjusting and regulating high pressure power boilers and allied systems related to the production and distribution of power, water, air and heat; checking, servicing and performing repairs on plant equipment; maintaining operational logs, recording readings.

Description:

As a Power Engineer 3rd Class, you will be responsible for performing repairs and inspections on a variety of building equipment and mechanical systems in accordance with AHS and Alberta Boiler Safety Association (ABSA) standards and practices.

You will perform maintenance work on power plant and building equipment as well as mechanical systems. In addition, you will operate and maintain the plant in a safe and efficient manner according to ABSA regulations and perform emergency maintenance on building related systems and equipment.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 3 to 5 years broad experience in operation and maintenance of boilers, turbines, generators, electrical switchgear, cooling towers, chillers, steam and heating systems and associated automated control systems with preference given to candidate with previous power generation experience. Under supervision of the shift engineer, incumbent is to use good judgement in solving technical problems arising in day-to-day operations. Knowledge of General Safety Service Act relating to Plant Operations and associated regulations. Writing reports as well as logbook entries. Basic computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Power Engineering Diploma. Safety training and certificates such as fall protection, confined space, asbestos safety, electrical safety training. Working knowledge of maintenance management software, more specifically E-facilities.
