About The Position We are seeking a dynamic and experienced bilingual HR Manager to support our operations in Eastern Canada. The successful candidate will possess a strong knowledge of provincial employment legislation across the region. The role is ideal for a collaborative leader who fosters positive employee/labour relations, brings a deep understanding of employment laws and HR best practices, and thrives on building high-performing inclusive workplaces.
Specific Responsibilities
- Provide HR leadership across eastern Canada, ensuring HR practices comply with provincial employment laws and ALS global policies
- Partner with leadership to ensure alignment between HR strategies and business objectives
- Support managers and employees with day-to-day HR needs including talent management, employee relations, HR policy and collective agreement interpretation, and employment standards compliance
- Facilitate performance management and talent assessment programs, coaching managers on feedback, goal-setting and progressive discipline
- Partner with managers to execute HR planning, talent assessment & succession planning, and skill development initiatives
- Promote a positive, inclusive and respectful work culture that reflects ALS values
- Manage employee engagement survey implementation and action plan development and implementation
- Cultivate a culture of feedback and agility, adapting quickly to evolving business needs
- Support the implementation of HR systems, process improvement and HR reporting
- Coordinate regional HR communications in English and French
- Identify opportunities to streamline HR processes and increase efficiency
- Lead HR projects for the implementation of the North America HR vision and global strategies
- Maintain and report on data from various HR systems providing analysis and recommendations
- Develop and refine HR tools, templates, and communication strategies
- Work collaboratively with Talent Acquisition to ensure recruitment of talent to meet current and emerging business needs
- Promote a positive, inclusive and respectful work culture that reflects ALS values
- Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- In-depth knowledge of employment and labour laws in Eastern Canada
- Demonstrated understanding and experience developing HR best practices
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
- Proficiency in HRIS systems, Microsoft 365, and other AI tools and applications
- Proven track record of providing guidance on complex human issues
- Demonstrated skills and abilities in coaching, influencing, facilitation, presentation, communication, process development, analysis and problem solving
- Ability to effectively handle escalations and time critical issues
- Discretion and sound judgement when handling confidential and sensitive matters
- Comfortable working with regional teams in office, remote or hybrid environments
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business or related field
- CPHR or CHRL designation, or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience including 2 years in a leadership or business partner role
- Fluent in English and French
Physical Demands
- Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities
- Ability to communicate via telephone and email without assistance
- Ability to travel up to 20% of the time may be required to support on-site teams
