Your Opportunity:

Henwood Treatment Centre is recruiting for an experienced and skilled Addictions Counsellor to join our team. This position will function in the context of a multi-disciplinary team that provides quality, client focused, recovery based, concurrent capable, culturally appropriate care to those seeking assistance/services within Addictions and Mental Health. The Addictions Counsellor will provide a range of services including comprehensive addiction and mental health assessment, care planning, treatment, case management, crisis intervention and group facilitation on site to adults experiencing concurrent mental health and addiction concerns disorders. The successful candidate will be able to provide professional, nonjudgmental evidence-based treatment to individuals seeking treatment at Henwood. About Henwood Treatment Centre: Henwood Treatment Centre is a 62-bed live-in treatment centre for those experiencing a substance use concern or a co-occurring substance use and mental health concern. Supporting clients with a broad range of needs, this centre offers a stabilization and treatment program that includes individual treatment, group support, psychoeducation and recreation. Please Note: Henwood is located in Northeast Edmonton and public transportation to the facility is limited. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Description:

As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed.

As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration.

Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.

Additional Required Qualifications:

A minimum of three years of prior clinical work with individuals with mental health and addiction concerns. Experience facilitating psychoeducational groups and facilitating group counselling required. Computer proficiency is essential as the position requires use of an electronic medical record. Physical requirements of the position include the ability to sit/stand and walk through a large centre as well as use stairs; there is no elevator access. It is also a requirement that the incumbent be physically able to respond to behavioral/clinical emergency situations that may occur anywhere in the building.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in a live-in treatment setting is an asset. Additional formal training in CBT, DBT, group psychotherapy, family therapy and/or other endorsed forms of current evidence-based therapy is desirable.
